Financial considerations are a very real part of this discussion. Scholarships are limited and minimal to most of the elite programs. The demand is so high for these institutions that scholarships are not necessary to recruit students to the programs. With that said, you should consider and apply for colleges within your financial abilities.
Scholarships should not be counted upon for full payment of tuition. Instead, they should be viewed as added bonuses. It is very tough to get acceptances into the top programs and if that is hte goal, then each student must be financially equipped to pay the price for attendance. Good grades and SAT/ACT scores can (depending on the school) offer the potential for academic scholarships.
Grades are also a factor in choices. Some institutions require very high grades and scores while others put little emphasis on this.
